Fast-Growing Cyber Security Firm Datashield Moving to SkySong 1

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz — One of the fastest-growing cyber security firms on the continent is coming to SkySong, bringing with it dozens of employees.

Datashield, which has locations in Utah and California, is expanding its security operations and moving all of its headquarter functions to 8,200 square feet on the fourth floor of SkySong 1.

The company, which operates a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year manages, detects, and responds to cyber threats, serves tens of thousands of end points around the world, including Fortune 1000 companies.

Its new Security Operations Center at SkySong is expected to reach its occupancy goal by September. In the next 12-18 months, Datashield expects to bring in 50 to 60 new employees.

“Datashield’s mission makes it a perfect fit for SkySong’s innovative environment,” said Sharon Harper, President & CEO of Plaza Companies, the master developer of the SkySong project. “We are excited to see the company’s growth, and especially the expansion of its security operations with the new Security Operations Center here in Scottsdale.”

“One of the reasons we’re looking forward to moving into this space is the look and feel of the facility, which is similar to a California technology campus,” said Datashield CEO Michael Malone. “We also feel that this space gives us the opportunity to continue to attract and keep talented employees in the area and take advantage of long term partnership opportunities with Arizona State University and to expand with SkySong.”

Datashield is one of the fastest growing cyber security firms in North America. Its mission is to combat the modern cyber adversary and empower large and mid-sized organizations, primarily in the financial, healthcare, energy, retail and legal industries. It does that with smarter, more comprehensive security posture management, and fast detection and response times that alert clients of threats within minutes not months.

Datashield currently has a memorandum of understanding in with ASU for a cyber range training program for students and commercial consumers.

“SkySong continues to be an ideal environment for technology companies looking to grow in the city of Scottsdale,” said Sethuraman Panchanathan, executive vice president of Knowledge Enterprise Development and chief research and innovation officer at Arizona State University. “Cybersecurity is an increasingly important industry, and we look forward to seeing Datashield grow as a part of SkySong.”

The Lee & Associates team of Craig Coppola, Andrew Cheney and Gregg Kafka represented SkySong’s collective ownership in the transaction. Datashield was represented by Jim Sadler of Keyser Company.

“We were pleased to be able to provide DataShield with an exceptional opportunity in SkySong 1, and our leasing team did a great job of making sure it was the right fit,” said Stanton Shafer, Chief Operating Officer of Holualoa Companies, one of the partners in the project. “This company is a great addition to the SkySong family and further boosts the spirit of innovation and technology on site.”

SkySong is a 42-acre mixed use development designed to:

  • Create an ecology of collaboration and innovation among high-profile technology enterprises and related researchers;
  • Advance global business objectives of on-site enterprises;

ASU is one of the largest public universities in the nation, with the majority of its students attending its campus in Tempe, Arizona, less than three miles from SkySong.

In addition to locating its own innovative research units at the center, through ASU’s on-site operations, tenant companies have a single point of contact for introductions to researchers, faculty and programs to address their specific needs.
