The City of Scottsdale has primary industries that serve as a ‘best fit’ for the community –those industries that would most benefit from Scottsdale’s existing assets for relocation into the area, which at the same time bring the highest value to the community in the form of investment, jobs, local purchasing and community vision.
Identification of target industries takes into account industry trends in the region and in the local area, local industry specializations, review of current state and regional targets, Scottsdale’s assets and liabilities and potential opportunities with emerging and niche markets.
According to Applied Economics, the fastest growing industries in Maricopa County from 2001‐2011 in terms of absolute job increases included hospitals, colleges, warehouse clubs, doctor’s offices, restaurants, home health care and commercial banking. Each of these industries added between 7,000 and 17,000 jobs during this time period. All of these industries have moderate to strong projected employment and output growth nationally over the next 10 years.
